Yevgeny Chepovetsky

Co-founder of the Oberton String Octet

Yevgeny Chepovetsky was born in Riga in 1995 and began learning the violin at four. He studied with Boris Kuschnir in Vienna and Graz and also received composition lessons from Pēteris Vasks.

In 2008 he won second prize in the ten-to-thirteen age group at the David Oistrakh Violin Competition in Moscow. The university’s report at the time lists him as Eugene Chepovetsky.

In 2015 he founded the Oberton String Octet with fellow students. The ensemble explores rarely performed octet compositions alongside established repertoire. Chepovetsky has appeared at festivals including Styriarte, Carinthischer Sommer and Arsonore, with artists such as Benjamin Schmid, Markus Schirmer and Clemens Hagen.
