Lorenzo Gatto

Beethoven sonatas and his ensemble Karavan

Lorenzo Gatto was born in Brussels and studied at its Royal Conservatory. After lessons with Herman Krebbers and Augustin Dumay, he completed his training with four years under Boris Kuschnir in Vienna. In 2009 he won second prize and the audience prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition.

His nomination as a Rising Star led to appearances in 2010 at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Vienna Musikverein and the Cité de la musique in Paris. His chamber music partners have included Maria João Pires, Martha Argerich and Mischa Maisky.

With pianist Julien Libeer he recorded all of Beethoven’s violin sonatas. In 2024 Gatto founded the string ensemble Karavan, with which he develops his own concert programmes.
