Ragnhild Hemsing
Classical repertoire and folk music from Valdres
Ragnhild Hemsing plays violin and Hardanger fiddle. Originally from the Norwegian region of Valdres, she studied at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo and then with Boris Kuschnir in Vienna. At fourteen she made her debut playing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra.
In The Norwegian Seasons she performs Vivaldi’s Four Seasons on the Hardanger fiddle with Barokkanerne. Her Peer Gynt project with the TrondheimSolistene connects Grieg’s music with its folk sources; VETRA brings music from Valdres together with jazz and improvisation.
In 2013 she and her sister Eldbjørg founded the Hemsing Festival in Aurdal. Her recordings for Berlin Classics include Røta, Bruch + Tveitt and Unbound.
